Leadership Development

If you are one of those who believe that the leader of an organization is limited in their impact and that market forces and other factors dictate outcomes, think again. Consider the Mets: failing under Willie Randolph and now rising from the ashes. What is the difference?

The answer lies at least in the engagement and inspiration of Carlos Delgado who is now carrying the team on his shoulders in pursuing a berth in post-season play. Delgado seriously underperformed during the earlier part of the season as if he were checked out. What is the only tangible difference in the team from before? Jerry Manuel, the new “interim”  manager. He has changed the chemistry, provided new direction, challenged the older players to step up and earned the trust of the team. The transformation is palpable.

Think about it.

--Jim Clifton, CEO, The Gallup Organization
