Intentional Leadership Agenda — Tool for CEOs
Balaji Krishnamurthy is a former CEO of some renown, now a teacher of leadership. His recent workshop for my Vistage board of CEOs in New York City was so well-received that the Group voluntarily and spontaneously committed to executing a tool he offered: The Intentional Leadership Agenda. By sharing the tool, I pay tribute to his contribution and suggest him as a new fave resource.
The gist of the lesson is:
– you will be a more authentic and effective leader if you write your intentional leadership agenda
– you will benefit from circulating it to others you respect for their input
– you will be more successful if you communicate the essence of it to your followers and other constituents
Here is the table of contents of what should be two or three pages:
a. A paragraph on your view of the job of the CEO
b. Your leverage (the constituents through whom you will leave a legacy and the approximate Number of them)
c. Your legacy (what difference after you are no longer CEO will remain in the minds and hearts and organizations affected by your presence)
d. Your presence (how you need to show up to achieve a thru c: roles played, engagement, enlistment, demeanor)
e. How you intend to find out how your are doing on a thru d
A first draft of this is better than no draft at all. Perfect is the enemy of good enough.
That’s just my view. What’s yours?
